Birthing Center

The number of induced labors in the United States doubled in the past decade. While legitimate reasons exist for labor induction—such as situations in which the mother or baby’s health is at stake—this increase has been linked to increased complications of labor and the rate of cesarean sections.
The team at Eden Medical Center’s Birthing Center adopted new protocols aimed at reducing the number of induced labors. We began the "Oxytocin (Pitocin) Project" in an effort to reduce the number of induced labors and to more safely manage labors requiring pitocin use. Eden earned the Exceptional Achievement Award for being the first Sutter hospital to effectively implement these protocols.
Eden’s Birthing Center team champions for our patients by doing everything we can to make sure every birth is safe and every baby is healthy. And sometimes that means just letting nature run its course.
