    Outpatient Rehabilitation Services

Outpatient Rehab Service offers the community a tremendous variety of skilled therapeutic services, aquatic exercise classes and community education. The need for this type of rehabilitation may result from any disease or condition, such as arthritis, that causes a person to be functionally limited. The goals of outpatient rehabilitation are to maximize function, safety and decrease pain in order to allow a person to remain independent using a variety of therapeutic techniques and rehabilitative equipment. The service also focuses on future injury prevention and health maintenance, which includes instruction in safe exercise techniques and fitness principles.

People are often apprehensive when it comes to their ability to overcome physical and functional limitations. However, Outpatient Rehab Service concentrates on setting short-term goals with long-term vision. Individualized treatment plans are based on the individual’s age, activity level, home or work environment and personal goals. The emphasis is on progress, rather than problems and limitations.

    Skilled, Experienced Staff
The Outpatient Rehab Service team includes occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists, and respiratory care practitioner. Designed with patient comfort and convenience in mind, the actual facility includes a spacious therapy gym, hand therapy clinic and a therapeutic swimming pool. Showers and lockers are also provided with ample, free parking that is level to the entrance.

Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

    Physical Therapy

Physical therapists help patients restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or disease. Physical therapy is for patients who have disabling conditions due to injury, disease or condition, such as low-back pain, arthritis, heart disease, stroke, fractures, head injuries, and cerebral palsy.

Our experienced team uses many different modalities--heat, ice, stretching, massage, exercise, electrical stimulation, ultrasound and more--to ensure comprehensive restorative care.

Eden Medical Center's inpatient physical therapists work with patients to restore function, strength and flexibility, while they are recovering in the hospital. This early intervention helps speed the recovery process, determine a patient's readiness for discharge and prepare patients to return home.

    Speech Therapy

Speech therapy is the rehabilitative treatment of physical and/or cognitive deficits or disorders resulting in difficulty with verbal communication. This includes both speech (articulation, intonation, rate, intensity) and language (phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, both receptive and expressive language, including reading and writing.

Depending on the nature and severity of the disorder, common treatments may range from physical strengthening exercises, instructive or repetitive practice and drilling, to the use of audio-visual aids.

Speech therapists provide a wide range of services, often working with stroke victims and those with traumatic injuries, and also provide services for individuals with dysphagia (difficulty swallowing).

    Oncology Rehabilitation Program

Eden’s outpatient Oncology Rehabilitation Program consists of a multidisciplinary team of rehabilitation specialists: physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech pathologists. Our therapists specialize in the unique needs of cancer survivors, and are STAR- (Survivorship Training and Rehabilitation Program) certified.

This STAR-Certified Clinician training, designed to enhance a clinician’s current expertise, has provided our therapists with a thorough understanding of the unique rehabilitation needs of cancer survivors and new skills to help patients increase strength and energy, alleviate pain, and improve daily function and quality of life.

STAR-Certified Clinician is endorsed by the nation’s leading cancer centers and was developed by Julie Silver, M.D., an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School, and herself a cancer survivor. Dr. Silver is a leading expert in rehabilitation medicine. Dr. Silver developed STAR-Certified Clinician training after going through cancer treatment herself and realizing that she desperately needed rehabilitation in order to return to her former level of function. She now says, “Survivorship services, including oncology rehabilitation, are imperative to cancer care. Every cancer survivor should be offered the opportunity to heal as well as possible and function at an optimal level whether their cancer is cured, in remission or they live with cancer as a chronic disease.”

We specialize in treating survivors with the following conditions:

    • Cancer related fatigue and weakness
    • Balance and gait problems
    • Limited range of motion affecting the spine or extremities
    • Speech, cognitive, or swallowing disorders
    • Lymphedema
    • Pain
    • Difficulties with activities of daily living

As oncology rehabilitation specialists, we look forward to providing the very best care possible to our patients.

    Lymphedema Program

Eden’s Lymphedema Program is staffed by Vodder and LANA certified therapists. Our service offers consultations, evaluations and treatments for those with swelling in one or more areas due to a variety of causes such as cancer treatments and trauma. Patients in any age group, on an outpatient basis or as an inpatient screening and consultation, are eligible for our services with a physician referral.

With our help, patients will learn how to monitor and manage the edema themselves with a thorough training in self-massage, compression, exercise, and skin care. The main goal is independent, self-management of the lymphedema.

Eden proudly features a unique compression system called Flexitouch Compression. This breakthrough device was developed by a Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) therapist and effectively mimics the gentle, tactile nature of MLD massage, treating both the trunk and the involved limb. Eden also has a measuring device, the Perometer, that can quickly and accurately measure the volume and circumference of the affected limb.
