Our Trauma Leadership
Mary Jane Boyd, BSN, RN, Director of Emergency and Trauma Services
Mary Jane (“MJ”) Boyd comes to Eden Medical Center with more than 20+ years of Emergency/Trauma experience. She is a graduate of the nursing program at CSU Chico, obtaining her BSN with a Public Health Certificate and is a third generation nurse. She has been instrumental in the establishment of a Countywide Trauma System and Trauma Program in the California’s Northbay region, resulting in California’s first American College of Surgeons Level III Trauma Center. She has served on the Statewide Committee of Trauma and California Hospital Association –Trauma Division and currently is an active member of the Regional Trauma Coordinating Committee, Trauma Education Consortium. Serving as an Emergency Room Nurse (ENA) approved facility member, she is a Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum Instructor Director. She was the recipient of the 2011 “Health Care Heroes” award presented by the San Francisco Business Times for her dedication to work in the emergency and trauma field. Having worked for a Sutter affiliate hospital in the past, she states that her transition back to Eden Medical Center has made her feel "back at home." In collaboration with her trauma team members, she is currently preparing Eden Medical Center for its first American College of Surgeons (ACS) verification of our County Designated Adult Level II Trauma Center in April 2014.
Dr. Saba Nora Azimi, Medical Director of Trauma Services
Dr. Saba Azimi joined the Eden Trauma Services team in 2009. Since that time, she has been an active participant in the clinical, as well as operational management of the service. Dr. Azimi received her undergraduate degree with honors from New York University and went on to receive her medical degree in June of 1998 from the State University of New York Health Science Center in Brooklyn. Following her medical education, she completed a five-year general surgery residency in a level I trauma center, Kings County Brooklyn and St. Vincent's Catholic Medical Center New York City. She then went on to perform another year of specialty training in colon and rectal surgery at the Weill College of Medicine at Cornell University in New York. Dr. Azimi came to California in 2004 and pursued her career in surgery in the private practice sector. After several years in practice, she decided to return to her roots of trauma surgery here in the Bay Area. Since that time Dr. Azimi has taken on several leadership roles at Eden Medical Center and is the current business administrator for the trauma group.
Michael P. Feranchak, RN, Trauma Program Manager
Prior to joining the ranks at Eden Medical Center, Michael was the Trauma Nurse Liaison at Marin General Hospital, where he worked for 16 years. There, he assisted with three successful trauma verifications, the last two being verified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). He has been a registered nurse for 23 years, 22 years of that working in Emergency/Trauma Departments. He graduated with a diploma from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital School of Nursing in Youngstown, Ohio and a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Youngstown State University. In the past, Michael has worked for Sutter Health and also feels “home again." Currently, he is working on the verification process for Eden Medical Center to become verified as a Level II Trauma Center by the ACS.
